Government Official States Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense minister has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential security risks posed by Chinese cars, while personnel have been instructed to avoid discussing secret matters in any cars.

Security Advice for MoD Personnel

During a recently aired appearance on LBC, a defence minister addressed claims that MoD officials have been instructed not to discuss classified material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He said that the ministry is β€œinvestigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, however noted that security is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any car, because of the growing risks of surveillance that are present in all automobile, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone worried about security.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using all cars from China, the minister replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Defence Background

The announcement follows claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and cause chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship was reportedly directing lasers at RAF pilots, described as a β€œhighly dangerous” act by government representatives.

This broader security environment highlights the significance of robust measures and caution in every aspects of government operations, including transport usage to communication habits.
